COMSIP Equips 2,500 Community Facilitators with Business Management Skills
By Mercy Chaluma
COMSIP is training 2,500 Community Facilitators in business management to support the growth of newly mobilized Savings and Loan Groups across the country under the Social Support for Resilient Livelihoods Programme (SSRLP) Tidzidalire.
The Community Facilitators will in turn replicate the training to group members, who are beneficiaries of the Social Cash Transfer Programme.
As part of the graduation pathway, beneficiaries are first mobilized into Savings and Loan Groups, where they receive transformational training in mindset change, financial literacy, group dynamics, Actionable Climate Smart Agriculture and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).
As the groups mature, members are further equipped with business management skills to enable them to access group loans, invest wisely, and establish sustainable income-generating activities.
Speaking during supervision of the trainings conducted by COMSIP Case Workers and Community Development Officers, COMSIP Financial Accountant, Samuel Mlotha, emphasized the importance of building the capacity of beneficiaries beyond social assistance.
“By building knowledge and confidence, we are helping households move beyond social assistance towards sustainable livelihoods and greater economic resilience,” he said.
The initiative forms part of COMSIP's efforts to empower 590,000 vulnerable households with the skills and knowledge needed to build resilient livelihoods and improve their socio-economic well-being under SSRLP, a government of Malawi project implemented with funding from the World Bank and Social Protection Multi Donor Trust Fund.
